the idea

The use of radio for mental health was first used in Argentina with Radio La Colifata, founded more than 20 years ago and has been adapted internationally in at least sixteen countries, including six in the EU (Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden).

the speech

This dynamic is based on the use and listening to speech, on the construction of meeting spaces, on the link with society in order to break the walls of discrimination and stigmatization, and in this way build a identity and deconstruct the discriminatory collective imagination.

the modele

Work starts from this place of employment which comes from the other. This dynamic proposes to play down the problem without denying it, by admitting a different point of contact from where it can generate a phenomenon of social empathy (understood as the ability to reach emotional relationships with other beings). Finally, this implies working from there, from this socially assigned place, but operating a small shift.

ABOUT US

Since March 2018, at the initiative of the therapeutic club Le Bon Effet, a radio appointment has been made: a recording, every 15 days for 1 hour at the associative cafeteria Menthalo via the broadcast of a program of 10 to 15 min. on Radio Campus.

We are inspired by the Argentinian model of "Radio la Colifata" and the Toulouse experience between Radio Campus and a day hospital for adolescents (creation of the program "Léon dit" in 2000).

Gather the words of the “prevented” with kindness and confidentiality thanks to the radio media as a tool of expression, creation and communication, in addition to the “institutional psychotherapy” co-participates in the care.

With its deliberately sober technical system, 48 participants were relayed on the antenna in 2018-19. Without forgetting interns of all backgrounds and ages, invited to the Monday recordings.

In short, free radio against confinement / isolation and for de-stigmatization around "mental handicap" in public audiovisual space as in proximity.

"The Speakers" at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday every two weeks on Campus 94 FM (rediff 'the following week at the same time), and very soon on the internet

Teorical and practical model

The work is part of a psychoanalytic approach, therefore in a practice where demand has an important place, a practice characterized by speech and by certain associations as the fruit of language. Psychoanalysis tries to decipher what acts in the subject, the unconscious.

This dynamic is based on the use and listening of words, on the construction of meeting spaces, on the link with society in order to break the walls of discrimination and stigmatization, and in this way build a identity and deconstruct the discriminatory collective imagination.

It is thanks to the recovery of subjectivity through the development of cultural activities and the use of speech - there is no more art of madmen than art of dyspeptics or patients of the knee - than this initiative tries to rebuild the lost social bond, because of the stigmatization of this minority population.

The Les Hauts Parleurs radio system represents an innovative alternative structured around the idea that :

a- the patient is an actor in his healing,

b- it is necessary to fight against the stigma of the patient and the disease,

c- mental illness is compatible with life in society,

d- the hospital produces an artificial stigma, and

e- the patient has a word which must be listened to.

This alternative, which produces subjectivity, would make it possible to see and listen, would distribute what is visible and invisible, what is said and what is not. Precisely, the radio allows a dynamic to go and return, which makes the borders porous in the sense of "waterproof" and leaves the possibility of the emergence of the meeting. In this context, the communication media constitute an alternative clinical, political and ethical work tool to support the subject and recognize it as a different place in our modern societies (rule of law) whose characteristics also allow us to question the efficiency and effectiveness of the rights and freedoms recognized by suffering people (citizens-users) as raised in the introduction.

Les Hauts Parleurs uses radio as a meeting space and language as an expression of symbolism (link producer) during this meeting. This meeting takes place between the Other who listens to the radio program, and the word, a cultural manifestation, which escapes the walls of confinement and travels freely. In this way, the Other, usually ʺ hostʺ of ʺcrazyʺ, becomes guest, and the ʺcrazyʺ becomes ʺhostʺ of unforeseen event.

The Speakers initiative seeks to create virtual bridges that bring together two artificially separate sectors of society and, in this way, to influence their identifications. This interest in the link established between the subject and society is not new, it had already been emphasized by Freud.

The working hypothesis was built around the beneficial effects of the establishment of a different relationship between the subject and the Other, of the establishment of bases favorable to the appearance of a "living together social" favoring the social integration of the subject - characterized by its symptom. This integration is favored thanks to the modification of the place it occupies in the discourse and its (stigmatizing) content. It is by recovering subjectivity by inscribing the subject's speech in public space - releasing a speech hidden by the hegemonic power - that this initiative focuses on the subject, on its suffering.

Les Hauts Parleurs installs a question where there is certainty. The certainty that needs to be moved is mentale mental illness = crazy, ʺ crazy = dangerousʺ, ʺcrazy = geniusʺ, ʺcrazy = permanentʺ. Rather, this questioning is : ʺ what is it? ʺ, mentale mental illness = what? ʺ, ʺ crazy = who? ʺ. Thus begins to circulate a new series of possible meanings in space with two territories. This approach seeks to create and promote the collective construction of new representations that challenge these myths. The proposed path consists in going towards the myth and then deconstructing it, a participatory and participatory deconstruction which concerns all of society.

The notion of space refers to the idea of two territories, one concrete and the other virtual. The concrete is the open work space created by radio, and the virtual is, on the one hand, the space created by the link between the speaker and the listener and, on the other, the social space . In this sense, this two-sided meeting ground is preparing the ground for political and social change. Indeed, radio and television fabricate messages that will water the social field and be inserted more or less at random in the minds of listeners, whose individual reactions to these messages will contribute, at a later stage, and especially in a certain number of them, to the creation of new ideas, commonplaces and keywords of revolutions or positions, which will constitute the next stage.

Speaking the subject in a communication medium means reinscribing it in the social corpus, in the sense that Les Hauts Parleurs tries to break the isolation (physical and symbolic) imposed by society and the media by allowing individuals to recognize themselves as subjects of discourse.

In this way the possibility arises of constructing a counter-discourse which aims at the transformation of the way in which power is structured, which supposes the recognition of new discursive practices in which reflection is essential. This counter-discourse does not imply the existence of a counter-hegemony, but it reflects a different discourse as a result of the creation of different meeting conditions. According to Antonio Gramsci, thinking about freedom is the only way to be truly free. It is in this sense that the members of the alternative project Les Hauts Parleurs reflect and practice free speech, leading to the modification of worldview and human practices and challenging the prevailing culture.

To do this, there are spaces for opinion, expression and speech. This conscious and critical elaboration is possible by accepting what the outside world thinks of them, represents the detachment from pre-established principles and the construction of a political, cultural and communicational alternative. Indeed, the working logic here is not to deny what the world thinks of them, but to take into account this imaginary to work with it.

This initiative also seeks to produce an impact at the level of social bond which seems to be characterized by a discourse positioning the subject in a particular place (of waste, loss), the content of which reflects the presence of negative social representations, a source of stigma. , prejudice and stereotypes towards this minority group (the suffering people).

The radio program Les Hauts Parleurs allows subjects to speak - as a "means of being recognized" - which is a key element in our working hypothesis: what we are looking for in speech, it is the response of the other since "every word calls for an answer". Indeed, language presents itself as the means by which subjects compose and transform the world, a situation which fits into a specific discourse.

Speaking through a communication medium can therefore mean re-entry into the social body. This alternative way of considering public space would make it possible to give a preponderant place to the Other and a decisive place to intersubjective virtual contact in order to facilitate the understanding of this place, this ʺbetween twoʺ where the encounter implies a discursive contact, product of '' a co-construction of meaning influencing individual and socio-cultural discourse and having an impact on the production of subjectivity and intersubjectivity.
